WE ARE DRESSMAKERS IN A DESIGNER'S WORLD

In Montalcino, in Piazza del Popolo, on the right side of the town hall’s very high tower, there is a special store: it is a tailor’s shop which, however, has the typical features of a bazaar, as it collects the manufactured articles made by many local craftswomen. The store is run by two sisters, who became seamstresses both because of their vocation and their family history: Renata and Gabriella Principe.

In addition to beautiful things for the kitchen, created with the traditional tessuti Busatti fabrics, in the store you can also find clothing items: dresses and shirts, sweaters and jackets made of fine wool, shawls and hats.

Every item is strictly handmade. Every item is one of a kind.

And that’s not all: the wools, linens and cottons which are used to manufacture the items are special, as they all originate from historical companies of the finest Italian production, the cashmere of ‘Cariaggi’, the linen, merino and silk yarns of ‘Pecci filati’, the fabrics for the clothes of ‘Tintaunita’.

During the summer, the tourists, mostly from America, come in, touch, crumple and then, relentlessly caught up by the quality, ask Renata to buy whatever item they have chosen.
From time to time, some special customers arrive, such as the American gentlemen to whom the Principe sisters have been sending their new colours of bath linen to for years, or the Swiss lady who regularly comes back and buys a different piece that she brings to her daughter.

Talking about high-quality table linen or even kitchen linen, nowadays, sounds like an anachronism: does it matter if the cloth with which I dry my hands has been produced with passion or if it came directly from China in hundreds of thousands of pieces? Yet these humble household items are extremely important: it is not just to save the rich tradition of local craftsmanship, the survival of which today is greatly threatened, but, most importantly, for our inner well-being: a small pleasure, a positive thought, a parenthesis in the repetition of everyday gestures. Is all this really not enough?”
